Megnut Misguidedly Endorses Campari
Over on Megnut (I know!) they’ve got an article about how you should drink Campari this summer. Absolutely fuck that. Even ignoring the fact that Campari is the drink of choice for emotionally distant fathers, it gets its coloring from cochineal extract. Do the opposite of what it says on Megnut and do not drink Campari. It is sick, sick shit that is made of bugs.

Don’t trust a foodie with your drinks.

The hell were you doing at Megnut?

Meg’s a nut.

If you notice, I didn’t write that article, a friend of mine did. I endorse Lillet for summer drinking. I find Campari disgusting, not because of the cochineal extract but because it tastes like cough syrup.

Megnut– A person who recommends Campari is no kind of friend. I’m worried that you have fallen in with a bad crowd.

How can anyone not like an Americano?

Aww poor Meg replied.

Campari is ‘made of bugs’ in the same way that people are made of sulphuric acid. Please do feel free to build on that analogy if you wish, ideally while sipping one of the many other drinks I wrote about. (Mine’s a guaranteed-cochineal-free Ramazzotti and soda while the summer lasts.)

AFAIK, as of June 2007, Campari no longer uses cochineal as its dye. I recall hearing this somewhere, and while Googling around trying to back up this memory, stumbled upon this post of yours. Here’s a chowhound link that seems to back me up: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/407351
Yay! Vegans can now have Negronis without fear again! :)
