Slate on Sweet Tea

Slate on sweet tea. I think I’ve only had lame imitations and never the real thing. Or at least I hope they were lame imitations because they were NAST.

  • If you’ve had has come out of a bottle or had a bitter, tannin-like dry aftertaste, it’s been the fake stuff. I don’t know that it’s found outside of the South, unless a transplanted Southerner made it for you.

The real stuff is so good. It’s ubiquitous enough that you have to specify unsweetened if you don’t want it sweet.

  • as someone who would marry sweet tea if it were possible, i have to agree with sara and advise you to avoid ANYTHING bottled. the best shit i’ve had was only in alabama or florida during vacations but some restaurants do carry it (buffalo wild wings of all places is one.)
i suggest it warm, because the soothing sweetness almost makes your teeth explode.

  • Warm sweet tea?

I lived overseas for a while immediately after high school and I was literally horrified that there was no sweet (iced) tea..or, to expand on that, no ice period - anywhere - for any purpose..

Anyway, in our family we classify tea into “unsweet”, “sweet”, and “granny sweet.” I prefer “granny sweet”, but I usually make “sweet” for the kiddos.
