The Secret To Buying Mexican Coke
Serious Eats is freaking out lately about all the Big Box stores that are selling Mexican Coke. I get mine at the groceria down the street, where it’s sold with little fuss or to-do. Am I the only non-Mexican person on the internet who does this? What is the story here. Is this like in books, when the poverty-stricken man realizes on his deathbed that the only possession he ever had, a worthless rock collection, was actually DIAMONDS all along?

I actually don’t even need to leave my building to get Mexican coke, ’cause there’s a Mexican restaurant downstairs, but people outside cities are not so blessed. Also it would be nice to buy Mexican coke by the case—tiny groceries are not always willing to sell you cases of anything, lest they run out of stock and make regular customers unhappy.

OK that makes sense, I couldn’t imagine this was a problem in NYC. I’m way outside of any city and it’s easy enough for me to procure, so I wondered if maybe general interest in this is more a matter of people’s comfort levels shopping at Wal-Mart vs the groceria. But I know you personally are down for whatever.

Yah they sell it at the Mexican markets in Chapel Hill, a town with neither a Wal-Mart nor a Costco. And I’d wager they also sell it at at least one of the four Mexican markets within a mile of my house, or any of the many other such markets in town. I’d sure as sugar rather go into one of those than set foot in Wal-Mart.
